At globatech, some career paths illustrate technical passion, human commitment, and the ability to evolve. This is the case for Sylvain Maillé, now service manager for the access department in Montreal at av-tech. He is a leader in the field who has never lost his taste for human contact.
Trained as an electrical engineer, Sylvain explored different options before finding his calling. After a year in Europe and a vocational diploma, he did his internship at av-tech... and stayed. For seven years, he was a technician on the road, covering all of Quebec and exploring a variety of fields, from gas detection to camera and barrier repair.
His career path: technician → service manager → access department development
“The technical and human challenge is what has always motivated me. I love understanding customers' needs and finding solutions.”
Over the years, Sylvain has been involved in several major projects, some of which have become landmarks in globatech's history:
“When a customer comes back after a bad experience elsewhere and stays, it's a victory.”
The parking barrier and access control systems sector is highly specialized. According to Sylvain, globatech clearly stands out from the competition and is a leader in Quebec. For him, it's simple: he considers globatech to be the best barrier company in Quebec, which makes him even prouder to be part of it.
What strikes Sylvain the most is the family atmosphere and solidarity that reigns within the teams. These bonds go beyond the professional sphere.
"Those who leave say it themselves: it's rare to find such camaraderie elsewhere. That's what makes it special."
He fondly recalls skiing with colleagues, Christmas parties with his children, and even meeting his wife—a relationship that began while working together at a hospital site.
A recent challenge or key project in Toronto
Thanks to the Ottawa team's solid reputation for repairing bollards, particularly those at Parliament, the manufacturer recommended their services to a customer facing a similar problem at the CN Tower. Jeeven first went to the site to carry out the location and make a precise diagnosis. Based on this assessment, Pat and Sylvain were able to prepare a detailed proposal, which was quickly accepted by the customer.
The result: the bollards on the CN Tower are back in full working order, just in time for the start of the high tourist season!
A fine demonstration of trust and expertise that extends well beyond Ontario's borders.
For Sylvain, the future of globatech lies in balanced growth, without ever losing the human touch that is its strength. He actively supports development in Toronto, with the hiring of a local technician, and works closely with Ottawa Security Systems to build a real bridge between the regions. The potential, he believes, is immense — “you just have to believe in it and go for it.”
